Cycling and cycling again...

KNOCK YOURSELF OUT

Short-term, high –intensity exercise doesn’t increase the risk of catching cold. According to Journal of Strength and Conditioning, researchers measured the immune function of rugby players before and after 80 minutes of strenuous play, and found no change in the levels of the antibody that neutralizes the germs that cause respiratory infections. The catch: repeated intense exercise can wear you down.

Bottom line: Don’t shy away from the hard workouts, but balance them with easy and rest day to stay healthy.

LIQUID SUNSCREEN?

Here’s reason number 3,465 to drink tea: A recent study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology suggests that regular tea consumption can reduce the risk of basal-and squamous-cell carcinoma, the two most common forms of skin cancer caused by overexposure to the sun. Researchers examined 2,200 adults and found that those who drank one more cups of tea per day were 20 to 30 percent less likely to develop the cancers than non tea drinkers. Risks were even lower for life-long tea drinkers and those who drank more than two cups per day.

Bottom Line: There’s no substitute for sunscreen, but a daily cup of tea but a daily cup of tea may provide extra UV protection.
